Frame Thickness

Our aluminum screen frames come in various sizes to fit a wide range of window styles. By far the most common frame thickness that windows require is 5/16" making up 90% of the window industry. All shapes listed below are made with the same gauge aluminum and feature the same strength and integrity, it is simply a matter of what shape your windows require.

5/16" x 3/4" screen frame: (most common) which provides a sturdy and reliable option for almost all applications.

3/8" x 3/4" screen frame: This is also a popular option for those windows that require a slightly thicker frame.

7/16" x 3/4" screen frame: This frame is designed for specialty windows that require a thicker shape to fit correctly.

Screen Mesh Types:

Standard Fiberglass Mesh: This is the most common and widely used screen mesh for windows and doors. It is made of a woven fiberglass material that is lightweight, easy to install, and provides good airflow and visibility. Heavy Duty Fiberglass Mesh: This mesh is made of a thicker and stronger fiberglass material than the standard one. It is more durable and resistant to damage caused by pets, kids, and harsh weather conditions. Pollen Guard: This mesh is designed to prevent pollen, dust, and other airborne particles from entering your home while allowing fresh air to circulate. It is made of tightly woven polyester fibers and is especially helpful for people with allergies. Solar Screen: This mesh is made of a denser fiberglass material that blocks up to 70% of the sun's heat and glare. It is ideal for windows and doors that face direct sunlight and can help reduce energy costs by keeping your home cooler. Pet Screen: This mesh is designed to withstand scratches, tears, and punctures caused by pets. It is made of a strong and durable polyester material and is perfect for homes with dogs and cats. Polyester Super Screen: This is an extra-strong mesh made of a heavy-duty polyester material that is five times stronger than standard fiberglass mesh. It is resistant to tears, punctures, and damage caused by weather and insects. Clear View Screen: This mesh is made of a finer and more transparent fiberglass material that provides better clarity and visibility than the standard mesh. It is perfect for windows and doors that offer a scenic view. No See Um (20x20) Small Insect Screen: This mesh is made of a tightly woven fiberglass material that blocks tiny insects such as gnats, sandflies, and midges from entering your home. It is perfect for areas with a high concentration of small insects. Aluminum Screen: This mesh is made of aluminum and is much stronger and more durable than fiberglass mesh. It is resistant to rust and corrosion and is ideal for homes located in areas with harsh weather conditions. However, it may block some airflow and visibility compared to fiberglass mesh.

Standard Spring Types

Leaf Tension Springs: These are the most common types of springs used in window screens. They are shaped like a crescent moon and are placed at the corners of the screen frame. When the screen is inserted into the window frame, the tension springs compress and help keep the screen frame in place securely.

Plunger Springs: These are spring-loaded pins that protrude out of the screen frame and into a channel or hole in the frame of the window. They are commonly used and there is commonly (4) plunger springs per screen. Plunger springs provide a secure hold on the window frame and can be easily removed when necessary.

Specialty Hardware

Swivel Clips: These are small plastic pointed plastic clips that are attached to the frame of the window screen with rivets and hold the screen in place. They turn 360 degrees and usually swivel into a channel of the window to secure the screen in place allowing the screen to be easily removed for cleaning or repair. They are also known as acorn clips.

Loop Latches: These are metal latches that are installed on the bottom of the screen frame and have a triangular shape and clip over a rounded head specialty screw mounted on the window sill. They are designed to hold the screen in place securely and are easy to use. Loop latches are ideal for windows that require frequent removal of the screen, as they can be easily released. Loop latches are very common in older style wooden windows.

Ram Horns: These are metal clips that are used to secure the screen frame to the window frame. They are shaped like a ram's horn and are clipped over a fin of the window frame. They are also known as bale clips and are commonly used in older windows. Ram horns or bale clips provide a secure hold on the screen frame and can be easily removed when necessary.
